Decision-support for environmental impact assessment: A hybrid approach using fuzzy logic and fuzzy analytic network process
نویسندگان
چکیده
The decision-making on approval of environmental impact assessment (EIA) is an intrinsically complex multi-dimensional process because it does not only consider the scientific facts but also reflect subjective values. The use of decision-support methods to balance facts and values can be beneficial for decision makers. This paper attempts to propose an integrated decision-support framework that employs fuzzy logic (FL) to manipulate the subjectivity as decision makers do in appraising the facts and values, significance-acceptability transformation (SAT) to incorporate standards and decision makers’ risk attitude into decision-making process, and fuzzy analytic network process (FANP) to manage the dependences among environmental factors and suggest an overall acceptability of the proposal. Finally, the proposed approach will be applied to the EIAs of construction projects, exemplified in a case study of the Taiwan High-Speed Rail project. 2008 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

An Integration of Quantitative and Qualitative Decision Support for Environmental Impact Assessment
A complicated decision-making problem such as environmental impact assessment usually requires both quantitative and qualitative decision support tools to collaborate for reaping their benefits concurrently. Although the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) has been widely used in EIA, it is hardly to address the dependence issue among environmental factors and reflect the subjectivity between scie...
متن کاملApplication of Interval-valued Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process Approach in Selection Cargo Terminals, a Case Study
Cargo terminals are the gateways for entrance of commodities into the transportation network. Therefore, locating them in optimal location could have a major impact on the cost effectiveness and efficiency of transport, traffic safety and reduction in environmental pollutions. Due to the presence of a large number of parameters involved and the existing uncertainties, decision making in this fi...
متن کاملA geographic information system for gas power plant location using analytical hierarchy process and fuzzy logic
This study recommends a GIS-based (Geographic Information Systems) and multi-criteria evaluation for site selection of gas power plant in Natanz City of Iran. The multi-criteria decision framework integrates legal requirements and physical constraints related to environmental and economic concerns. It also builds a hierarchy model for gas power plant suitability. The methodologies used for site...
متن کاملStrategy-aligned fuzzy approach for market segment evaluation and selection: a modular decision support system by dynamic network process (DNP)
In competitive markets, market segmentation is a critical point of business, and it can be used as a generic strategy. In each segment, strategies lead companies to their targets; thus, segment selection and the application of the appropriate strategies over time are very important to achieve successful business. This paper aims to model a strategy-aligned fuzzy approach to market segment ev...
متن کاملIdentification and ranking risks of horizontal directional drilling for oil & gas wells by using fuzzy analytic network process, a case study for Gachsaran oil field wells
Risk ranking of Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) for gas and oil wells is a key criterion in the project feasibility, pricing and for introducing a risk management strategy that aims to reduce the number of failures in the installation phase and its negative consequences. HDD is currently widely used in drilling wells in Iran, but research in the area of identification and risks ranking of...
